a.m. adalah singkatan dari ante meridiem ( dari bahasa Latin ), before noon yaitu sebelum jam 12 siang.
Contoh :

- 09:00 a.m. menjadi it is nine o’clock in the morning atau it is nine a.m. = Pukul sembilan pagi
p.m. adalah singkatan dari post meridiem, after noon yaitu sesudah jam 12 siang.
Contoh :
- 03:00 p.m. menjadi it is three o’clock in the afternoon atau it is three p.m. = Pukul tiga siang
- 06:00 p.m. menjadi it is six o’clock in the evening atau it is six p.m. = Pukul enam petang
- 11 : 00 p.m. menjadi it is eleven o’clock at night atau it is eleven p.m. = Pukul sebelas malam
- 12 : 00 p.m. menjadi it is twelve o’clock at midnight atau it is twelve p.m. = Pukul duabelas tengah malam
